Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are exfoliation treatments which smooth out upper layers of the skin with the use a chemical or acid. Chemical peels have been performed in Canada and the U.S. for many years and are very common amongst those who have skin concerns. Aesthetic Clinic by Esthetique offers Skinceuticals professional chemical peels for a various skin concerns.

Glycolic acid (AHA) is an alpha hydroxy acid derived from sugar cane. It exfoliates the skin and contributes to enhanced skin hydration, smoothes fine lines and improves the skin's texture and tone. Glycolic acid peels are great anti-aging treatments that help the skin to regenerate itself. Glycolic acid is a popular chemical peel amongst young adults and those who want to brighten the skin.

Salicylic chemical peels are often used to control breakout prone skins. Salicylic acid (BHA) is a beta hydroxy acid which is an oil soluble solution derived from willow bark, wintergreen leaves and birch bark. This chemical peel helps oily prone skins by dissolving bacteria. Salicylic acid peels also promote cutaneous shedding as well as dissolving black-heads and white-heads. Salicylic chemical peels are also popular for mature skins who want to regenerate the skin on a deeper level than what is typically achieved with microdermabrasion treatment or glycolic peels. By stimulating cutaneous shedding, we are able to exfoliate the deep layers of the skin which improves fine lines, pigmentation and wrinkles. Salicylic chemical peels are safe for all skin types.

Lactic acid is derived from milk. Due to its molecular size, being larger than AHA and BHA molecules, Lactic acid chemical peels do not penetrate as deep as Glycolic acid peels and Salicylic acid peels. This chemical peel is designed for those who do not require deep skin exfoliation and/or those who have dry, sensitive skin. Lactic acid peels are also effective and gentle enough for those with Rosacea.

Chemical Peel FAQs

What Are Post Peel Instructions?
After receiving a chemical peel, avoid sun exposure as much as possible when healing. Do not pick or peel the skin as these actions can cause scarring. Avoid excessive exercise for 24-48 hours post treatment as well.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments varies from individual to individual depending on the condition treated and purpose for treatment. For corrective procedures, 6 treatments are typical spaced approximately 2-4 weeks apart. For maintenance programs, sensitive skins/Rosacea sufferers, or anti-aging remedies, peels may be scheduled every 28 days apart depending on the intensity of the peel.

What Are Alphahydroxy Acids?
Alphahydroxy acids are water soluble acids which have been used for years for skin rejuvenation. These are naturally occurring acids found in fruits and other foods. They are used in many concentrations, however, commonly used to formulate the lightest of peels. These types of peels can provide smoother, brighter-looking skin. AHA peels may be used to treat fine lines, areas of dryness, uneven pigmentation and acne.

What Degree Of Peeling Should I Expect?
The degree of peeling depends on the strength/depth of the peel and your particular skin condition we are treating. Some clients will get a fair amount of flaking while others do not have any at all. This does not mean the peel did not work. We are slowly breaking down the skin's top layer which may take a few sessions to penetrate deeply. This means the product has penetrated and exfoliated the skin at a microscopic level. In general, whether you have experienced heavy peeling or not the end results is a glowing and smooth skin complexion.
